Response to Ana's question below:

Hi Ana:

In our experience as a custom home builder, in a rebuild scenario you should not be paying schools fees unless the square footage of your house has increased. If it has increased, then the city is likely charging for the additional square footage. Do check the math, as you'll want to confirm that the city has done the calculation correctly. It appears that you have started construction already, so check with you contractor, they should help you to take care of this if it is a discrepancy. If you have additional questions or need clarifications, we would be happy to help. Please email me at choppin@urbanpacific.com

Hello,

We just started rebuilding and the city has charged us school fees in order to obtain the rebuilding permits. Shouldn't we be able to have some of those fees waved? Feedback? Thanks,

We are a general contractor in Northern California currently using a panelized wall system to build custom homes in Reno and Lake Tahoe. This is not a pre-fabricated home by any means. These walls are built off-site in a factory using kiln dried lumber, all cuts are done by a CNC machine, the walls are then shipped to the homesite and erected. Framing and roof can be completed in as little as three weeks. You can be back in your home in as little as 7-8 months. We can also help you through the design and permit process. We shop around for the lowest prices on all aspects of construction, from lumber, to finishes. We can get you the lowest price and we have experience working with insurance companies, we helped rebuild homes in Northridge, CA after the big earthquake. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me through this forum, email me direct at craig@cooper-construction.net, or call me at 775-842-4911. Dear neighbors in the tea fire areas:

In response to the recent tragedies in our community, Arlington Construction, Inc. sends our deepest sympathies to those affected. As a long time resident of the Santa Barbara area, I have seen many tragic fires sweep through our beautiful community. The Sycamore Fire, the Painted Cave Fire, the Gap Fire, and now the Tea Fire have all left historic scars on the place we call home.

My son and I were on Las Alturas Road the first night of the Tea Fire helping some friends salvage their most precious belongings. Seeing the flames less than fifty yards from us as we retreated, we feared the worst for the following day. Thankfully, our friends’ home survived. Sadly, some of us were not so fortunate. We would like to lend helping hand to those who have suffered these tragic losses and hardships.

At a time such as this, it is difficult to start considering a rebuilding process. This is where we would like to offer our assistance. Arlington Construction, Inc. has been helping our community and neighbors build their dreams for over 24 years. Locally owned and operated, we are familiar with local building department procedures and local codes; we have also developed relationships with some of the finest subcontractors and clients in the Santa Barbara area. We are a full service general contracting firm and we work with a number of architects in the local area. We would be honored to help get your dreams back on track with as little confusion as possible. So when you are ready, we will be here for however large or small the task.

If you would like to find out more about Arlington Construction, Inc., please contact us for a free consultation or visit our website @ www.JACINC-GC.com.

Sincerely,

Jeff Arlington

John Malick & Associates Comment by John Malick & Associates on December 1, 2008 at 12:10pm
I want to begin by extending my sincere sympathy for the loss of your home and all of the irreplaceable memories it contained.

My firm, John Malick & Associates, a Bay Area based architectural practice committed to preserving our architectural heritage. . In a world of throw away architecture, we are proud to be a team of 12 classically trained architects building exclusively in historically accurate traditional styles.

In our Northern California community, we suffered similar devastation during the Oakland Hills Firestorm of 1991. My firm was responsible for the recreation and restoration of the majority of the historically significant homes and gardens lost in that blaze. We would be happy to share the wealth of expertise we have accumulated procuring responsible insurance settlements, and dealing with the unique post-fire landscape, architectural design and planning issues that arise after wild fires.

I feel it is our responsibility to help preserve for future generations Montecito’s unique architectural legacy. I invite you to visit our web site, jmalick.com, to see a portfolio of historically accurate restorations produced over the last 20 years.

Please accept my deep apologies for this tragedy. If there is any way that I can help by sharing our experience in Northern California, I welcome your call.
